The Google Pixel 7a is a mid-range Android smartphone released by Google in 2023. Available in Sea, Snow and Charcoal, this featured phone is the Sea-coloured variant. It comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels) and a pixel density of 429 ppi, providing crisp and vivid visuals. The display features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. At the centre top is a punch-hole cutout housing the front-facing camera. The bezels are symmetrical and reasonably slim.   Aside from the Sea colour, Charcoal and Sea are also available.

Under the bonnet is the Google Tensor G2 processor built on a 4nm manufacturing process, offering better power efficiency over its predecessor. It is paired with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM for smooth multitasking and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. For photography enthusiasts, the 128GB Pixel 7a provides ample space to store high-resolution photos and videos.

For taking photos and videos, the Pixel 7a sports a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12.2MP main wide angle shooter with an f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS) along with a 16MP ultrawide angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 114-degree field of view. Photographic features include Night Sight for low light photography, Motion Mode for action shots, Portrait Mode with advanced face retouching, Top Shot to capture the best moment, and Magic Eraser to remove unwanted objects or people in the background. The rear cameras are capable of recording 4K video at up to 60fps. Slow motion videos can be captured at up to 240fps in 1080p resolution. The selfie camera is 8MP with an f/2.0 aperture.

Other notable features include an in-display optical fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication and security, stereo speakers with support for high-resolution audio, WiFi 6E for fast internet connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless connections, NFC for contactless payments via Google Pay, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port for 18W fast charging. The Pixel 7a packs a 4355mAh battery which is rated to deliver over 24 hours of normal usage and supports up to 20W fast charging with the bundled adapter. It ships with Android 13 out of the box along with a guarantee of at least 3 years of major OS and security updates from Google.

Design-wise, the Pixel 7a has an aluminium frame with a polycarbonate back said to be made from recycled bottles. The Sea colour variant has an attractive two-tone finish with a light top and a darker grey bottom. The rectangular camera module blends fluidly into the back panel. The phone weighs around 178g making it quite lightweight for a modern smartphone. With a thickness of 8.7mm, the Pixel 7a is slim and easy to grip in one hand. It retains the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack at the top which would please many audiophiles.

Overall, the Google Pixel 7a offers solid mid-range performance with Google's acclaimed camera prowess, the latest Android 13 software, impressive battery life and a relatively affordable price tag. The Pixel experience has been highly regarded for its clean, ad-free interface with useful features like Live Caption. Coupled with Google's class-leading night photography abilities, intuitive AI-enabled photo editing tools, and the powerful Google Tensor G2 chip, the Pixel 7a provides great value for money. It's an excellent option for photography enthusiasts looking for clean software and excellent cameras in a pocket-friendly package.
